Chiropractic for Kids
Newborns and Infants- When a baby is born and passes through a very small canal or incision, the spine
of the baby is stressed. While it seems all systems are evaluated at birth, that’s just not true. The spine
is frequently overlooked except for identifying spina bifida. Babies being held, lying down in the crib,
nursing with the head in the same position can lead to problems in the upper back and neck of the
infant. This limited movement can create the baby’s first subluxation in the neck and upper back.
Symptoms include: fussiness, colic, inability to turn the head fully both ways, nursing on only one side,
and decreased sleep and appetite to name a few. Dr. Staley is very experienced with delivering gentle
chiropractic adjustments to correct and alleviate these symptoms and allow parents to relax and even
sleep.
Crawlers and toddlers- As babies hold up their head they create the cervical (neck) curve. Then they sit
up which begins the thoracic (mid back) curve. Finally they stand and walk which creates the lumbar
curve. These curves are all normal but should be checked by your family chiropractor at each one of
those stages. A crawling child drags a leg, or a toddler who frequently falls to the same side can be
indications of subluxations in the pelvis, low back, or even the upper part of the spine. These problems
are simply treated by gentle chiropractic adjustments.
Middle ear infections (acute otitis media/AOM) - One common problem of upper cervical subluxations
in all kids is middle ear infections. Most ear infections are a result of a viral infection which are not
helped with antibiotics. Antibiotics kill off the normal bacteria in the gut, causes diaper rash, yeast
infections, and diarrhea. If the infection is related to a structural issue, a simple and gentle chiropractic
adjustment can allow the body to quickly heal naturally. Adjustments help resolve chronic and acute
middle ear infections.
Kids and Teens- As your child get older we see increased playing on a screen, watching TV, or slumping
in a chair, which leads to bad posture that can lead to other health issues later on. Treating these issues
early can stop a problem later on. Going to school, carrying a backpack, running and playing with their
friends is going to involve falls, emotional stress and other traumas of just being a kid. We recommend
that your child be checked regularly, and especially after any emotional traumas or stops and falls to
make sure that they grow up to be the best young adults possible. So call the Family Chiropractic
Center, and let Dr. Staley, who LOVES kids, see what he can do.
Pregnancy and Expectant Moms – One concern for all pregnancies is the position of the child in the
uterus. If the child is breech, there is a technique developed by Dr. Webster to gently and carefully turn
the child. Dr. Staley has a success rate of over 90% using the Webster turning technique.
Mothers change chemically, physically and emotionally as the pregnancy continues. Back, neck leg and
hip pain are all frequent concerns of expecting moms. Women who are adjusted throughout their
pregnancy have fewer complications and easier deliveries. If you’d like to see what chiropractic can do
for you and your pregnancy, call Dr. Staley at the Family Chiropractic Center and let him make this
wonderful process easier.
